Appreciation and Encouragement
Appreciation and encouragement can build confidence, strengthen trust, improve performance, and help bring out the best in people.
The Way to Develop the Best that is on a Person
As a tennis coach, I’ve learned this lesson clearly:
When you appreciate effort and encourage growth, you don’t just improve performance — you develop people.
Appreciation and encouragement are the way to bring out the best that is in a person.
Not pressure. Not fear. Not constant criticism.
People grow when they feel seen.
They try harder when they feel valued.
They improve faster when they believe someone believes in them.
This isn’t theory for me — I see it daily on the court.
When I intentionally appreciate effort and encourage progress, everything changes.
Confidence rises.
Body language improves.
Players take more initiative, play freer, and recover faster from mistakes.
The same correction delivered with encouragement gets better results than criticism alone.
One builds trust. The other builds tension.
Encouragement doesn’t mean lowering standards.
It means raising people to meet them.
When players feel appreciated, they don’t just play better — they become better.
More disciplined. More resilient. More open to learning.
Whether in sports, leadership, or life:
If you want the best from someone, help them see the best in themselves.
